While searching on HOUZZ for Florida coastal construction ideas to renovate a house, we came across a builder by the name of Steve Perry (J S Perry & Co.). Steve’s projects and reviews appealed to us, so we arranged for a meet and greet at a potential project on Clearwater Beach. We liked him instantly. Instead of moving forward with the renovation project, we decided to build a new home in Belleair, Fl., and we knew that Steve was our guy.

Having built three custom homes in the past, we were comfortable with the process and the expectations from both homeowners and builders. However, we were told by many friends that building in Florida would be a vastly different experience. Fortunately, the working relationship with Steve was top notch on every level.

Even when faced with the usual bumps along the road that are typical during a construction project, Steve remained even-tempered and always projected a ‘can-do’ attitude. Steve is not afraid to think 'outside the box’ in order to come up with creative solutions, while at the same time understanding the client’s needs.

His architectural training also came in handy when working with our architects and when confronting complicated design issues that popped up along the way. Steve and his team do great work, offer great customer service, and provide an open line of communication from start to finish. Since the project was finished, Steve has remained in regular contact to answer questions or deal with routine follow-up punch list items. We highly recommend J S Perry and would work with Steve again without hesitation.

Steve Perry is the consummate professional. I contracted with Steve to do a teardown and rebuild of a gulf front cottage. We did a whole house remodel on Clearwater Beach. Another contractor said it could not be done because of FEMA restrictions. We wanted to keep the ranch style so our dogs could use the back yard and my in-laws would not need to worry about stairs. The results are nothing short of spectacular. We were guided and informed every step of the way. Minor hurdles never became major hurdles. Steve and his crew were a pleasure to work with. The most important part is that when little issues came up months after completion, Steve would step up and get things taken care of. The bedroom done in Florida by J.S. Perry & Co., Inc. is like a beautiful drawing out of a fairytale book. The side table lamps on the Italian side tables, look amazing. The headboard is gorgeous. Love the bedspread from The White Company in London. The carpet Looks like a Turkish Tabriz. Everything just flows, gently together. This room took a lot of talent to put together. I have loved decorating all my life. I thought I had learned a lot, I now find, I've learned very little, and I need to carry on learning through the amazing talents of people like J.S. I was referred to Steve Perry by our real estate agent. We are from Canada and were doing a complete renovation of a condo we bought in Treasure Island, Florida, where we had no contacts in the construction industry. We were fully aware of the challenges of finding someone in construction who can be trusted and who will give you a quality product at a reasonable price. We hired J.S. Perry to renovate a beach-side cottage built-in 1919. The project required extensive knowledge of FEMA guidelines and involved exterior renovation, interior renovation, and landscaping. Our 15-month effort included a team of about 70 professionals, including roofers, framers, tile artisans, masons, carpenters, plumbers, low- and high-voltage electricians, painters, and architects. We were incredibly pleased with Steve's network of professionals and were delighted with the outcome.

Any project of this size will have surprises and challenges, and we felt like Steve became a partner in our success for the effort. Sometimes, the craftsmanship utterly amazed us. As a homeowner and a real estate investor, having done several renovations, large and small, as well as building an executive estate from the ground up, I know that finding and choosing a great contractor to work with is a trying task. Especially if you are as diligent in workmanship perfection and financially prudent as I am. I never look for a good contract but for a great one. Only because I cannot afford a “good” contractor (because I know that from only a good contractor I won't get the quality and standard I want and the financial satisfaction I need), "I get my monies worth".

So, embarking on a big renovation for my new home in Clearwater I was introduced to JS Perry and Co, less formally, Steve. This was after several other interviews with other contractors. In the short time spent interviewing Steve and very quickly getting his comprehensive bid, I knew he was the contractor I wanted to work with. Having excellent references helped make the choice as well.

Well, all I said above with regards to a great contractor held true for Steve throughout the project. His communication was clear, prompt and understanding. You would call him and mostly in minutes he would call you back. Any questions you had would be addressed immediately and answered. He was always on time for a meeting and his crew showed up on time. And last and most importantly is the stellar renovation work Steve and his crew have done. My wife and I love the way our new house looks. It gleams with workmanship perfection. Would I hire Steve on another project? Absolutely!
